One of the outcomes of a study we conducted in 2019 – before COVID-19 – was that FMCG companies were generally not looking for a complete re-design of their audit program. They were looking at improvement opportunities to increase its robustness, optimise the available resources, and leverage synergies. Then a “black swan” event happened. It was a surprise with a major effect. Companies were not prepared for it nor were their audit organisations. COVID-19 has been and is currently driving and accelerating a drastic transformation of the audit function.
